Therapeutic Groups

RTI has set up additional therapeutic groups, with qualified Farsi/Dari and English speaking psychotherapists to support Afghan refugees and Afghan communities.

Purpose

At this very difficult time of change, uncertainty and displacement for thousands of Afghan people remaining in and leaving Afghanistan the purpose of these groups is to provide a safe community space, to promote emotional healing, stabilisation and emotional regulation through an introduction to grounding and regulation practices and psychoeducation about trauma.

There are separate groups for:

·     Men

·     Women

·      Young men (16-24)

·      Young women (16-24)

·      The Hazara community

Groups will use a range of methods, including talking, arts and/or movement.

Who are the groups for?

Potential group members need to be signed up by an organisation, who in the event of a serious risk of harm, alongside RTI, is committed to take on in-country safeguarding responsibilities for this group member.

Where do the groups take place?

Groups are online. Each group is for up to 8 people, led by two therapists who are trained and supervised by RTI.

When do the groups take place?

We will aim to start the groups in October once each group reaches the required minimum of eight people. Groups will run throughout the year and each group will run for at least 12 weeks.
